On May 17, 2019, the governments of Canada and U.S. reached a deal to drop steel and aluminum tariffs. Following the announcement, Canada Border Service Agency issued Customs Notice 19-09 repealing the United States Surtax Order (Steel and Aluminum): SOR/2018-152 and the United States Surtax Order (Other Goods): SOR/2018-153 effective May 19, 2019. This eliminates 10%-25% retaliation surtaxes on some U.S. originated goods that Canada imposed in the midst of the last year trade dispute between the countries.
